In October 2020, we celebrated the completion of building our dream home. What began as a personal effort to integrate Home Assistant into our Smart Home setup has transformed into a more profound exploration of what a home can truly become.
This site now lays the groundwork for Homes That Behave Well—a series that highlights not only the devices but also the behavior of a Smart Home. It documents the design of a home that is calm, predictable, and explainable. A smart home that understands its surroundings, responds with intention, and has begun to learn about its contents, how to care for them, and why they matter over time.
While our technology stack, which includes Home Assistant, Unifi, and a deeply integrated local-first architecture, remains important, it is no longer the focus of the narrative. The core essence lies in creating a home that works for you in ways that extend far beyond merely turning on lights or adjusting temperatures. It’s about building a system that enhances daily life, preserves what matters, and behaves well without requiring constant attention.
